Diablo - 7/10
From the depths of the creators of WarCraft, comes a
unique Role-Playing game. Based on the true Hack-n-Slash
genre, is Diablo. This is the first game to go
mainstream with its online multiplayer focus. While you
are able to play this single, the focus is to interact
with fellow adventures online to defeat the monstrous
evil.
In the original, you choose between three classes: Thief,
Warrior, Wizard. There is an add-on which provides a
fourth class, monk, and new spells/items. In your
adventures you find special equipment and weapons in the
dungeons below your hometown. The gathering of unique
equipment spawned some cheating, but Blizzard sent out a
patch to fix that. Single play is a bit repetitive, but
you are able to acquire items not available in the
multi-play. The graphics and speed of the game is
superb, even over the internet.
The dungeons and monsters are impressive the first time,
but after you get past the first few they seem to blend
together. The strategy of the game is to overcome you by
swarm. Spells are very powerful in the game, and potions
regen your mana to full. Spell casters have a distinct
advantage over the other classes.
With improvements in battle.net and the coming of Diablo
II, this online gaming can only flourish with great
success.
